Proud To Be A Country Boy

Mama Ponder, Dorey and I just went out in our pasture and picked our first mess of blackberries this year.  They sure looked good too and if the good weather holds there will be a lot more where they came from in a week or so.  Mama is washin' them before she turns them into Blackberry Jelly. Her and Dorey's peanut brittle, jams, apple and peach butter, and jellies have several folks around here addicted.   Them folks hoard it.  I'm not kiddin' either.  I know several men that buy their yummies and then hide it...not just from guests...from their own dadburn family.  That's plumb pitiful.

Yum yum.  My tongue has pert near flapped my brains out just thinkin' about that jelly.  A bunch of guys that served together in K Company, 511th when we went to Germany got together every now and agin, sometimes at Ft Campbell.  One of them lived in the Charolette, NC area so I had him stop over and spend the night enroute home.  At breakfast he got into Mama's apple butter and at the end  of the meal, he was just sittin' there eatin' nothin' but apple butter, the biscuits were already long gone.  So Mama Ponder took mercy on that poor city boy and gave him a pint of apple butter to take with him. He called about two weeks later and said his jar was empty and wanted to know if he could drive back up here [8 or  9 hours - round trip] and get a refill. ha  You city slickers can just eat your hearts out.  This ol' country boy loves berries and honey and such.  Flap-flap-flap-flap-flap-flap.....
